HAMDEN, CT -- Solidago Foundation chief executive officer, Elizabeth Barajas-Román, will be speaking at the “Strengthening Democracy & Communities Through Civic Engagement” program hosted by the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy. Barajas-Román will address the shared aim of deep, long-term, systemic social engagement and the role of the funder in movement-building at the grassroots level. This private event will be held on Wednesday, January 24th at the William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund.
The Solidago Foundation has a twenty-year history as a leader in the field of philanthropy both through grant-making and partnerships. Under Barajas-Román’s leadership, the Foundation supports base-building organizations through grants and organizational support in combination with expertise, analysis and vision to transform how citizens engage with democracy.
“The Connecticut Council for Philanthropy is delighted that Elizabeth Barajas-Román will join our Strengthening Democracy & Communities Through Civic Engagement event. Solidago has been a longtime leader in the civic engagement arena. We look forward to having Elizabeth share her expertise and Solidago's story with the philanthropic community of Connecticut,” said Karla Fortunato, president of The Connecticut Council for Philanthropy.
In addition to Barajas-Román, participants will include Connecticut Secretary of the State Denise Merrill, DataHaven executive director Mark Abraham, Everyday Democracy director of strategic alliances and equity officer Valeriano Ramos, Everyday Democracy executive director Martha McCoy; and Ian Simmons, president at Foundation for Civic Leadership.
“Civic engagement has never been more important than at this critical time,” said Barajas-Román. “We are excited to join our colleagues to discuss ways we can support our democracy through partnerships with grassroots groups that are mobilizing for change.”
